Safer Spaces for Victims of Domestic Violence
If you are in an unhealthy or abusive relationship, its never too early to reach out for help. Domestic violence can happen to anyone. To get help, please call any of these numbers:
- If you are in danger, or you think anyone is is danger, call the police: 911
- If you think children may be at risk, you MUST report it to Child & Family Services: 1-800-638-0715.
- If you need help, call the Family Violence Info Line: 310-1818
The Safer Spaces for Victims of Domestic Violence (The Residential Tenancies Amendment Act) allows for victims of family violence to end a residential tenancy agreement without financial penalty.
To end a tenancy agreement for this reason, tenants must get a Certificate Confirming Grounds to Terminate Tenancy. A Certificate can be used to give at least 28 days’ notice to vacate. The tenant will be responsible to pay rent during the notice period.
